Our predoctoral researcher Nerea Bilbao, has been interviewed for the article «Another ‘very warm’ January: towards a ‘Tropical Euskadi’?» in El Salto newspaper.
In the interview Nerea states, among other things, that:
The temperature data are really alarming at a global level, the year 2023 was the warmest recorded to date with values over 1.5 ºC above pre-industrial levels.
Although she points out that we are now in a «positive phase of the ‘El Niño’ phenomenon» that «is contributing to the increase in temperatures», she recalls that:
The main cause is the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere derived from human activities.
In this scenario, Bilbao states that:
The Basque Country is no exception: temperature is only one of the climatic variables that are being altered by climate change. Precipitation patterns are also changing.
